Italy's Elisa Longo Borghini won the women's Giro d'Italia on Sunday ahead of Belgian Lotte Kopecky after the eighth and final stage.

Longo-Borghini held her 21-second advantage on Kopecky to become the first Italian to win the race since 2008.

The 32-year-old Lidl-Trek rider wore the leader's pink jersey from the first to the final stage.

Australian Neve Bradbury finished third overall after the 117km final run from Pescara on the Adriatic coast inland to L'Aquila.
