Springbok Sevens talisman Selvyn Davids celebrated a return to the team following injury with a brace of tries, as they opened their Perth SVNS account with a 24-7 win over a feisty Canada on Friday.

Davids showed his value to the team as playmaker and had a profound influence on the game, using his feet to beat defenders for both tries, and then contributed to the team’s other tries as well as the team welcomed him back with smiles.

His influence was missed in the tournaments he wasn’t there, and the Blitzboks are definitely a stronger team with him back in their midst.

He also contributed a pinpoint kick-pass for Quewin Nortje to score his seventh try in three tournaments, with the latter doing a double step to flummox defenders on his way to the line.

There was also a debut try for Tristan Leyds, brother of Springbok Dillyn, who saw an opening and took a quick tap to run in untouched.

They next face Spain at 12.22pm before Saturday’s early game against Sevens Series leaders Argentina at 6.38am.
