Fulham manager Marco Silva said his team should have won before the penalties, after Championship side Preston North End beat them 16-15 in the League Cup's longest shootout after Tuesday's third-round clash ended 1-1 in regular time.

Silva, who had made 11 changes from Saturday's starting line-up against West Ham United, was left frustrated as his men missed chances despite getting 16 shots against hosts Preston who only had seven, with Fulham's Harrison Reed hitting the crossbar.

"I'm sure that we did enough during the 95 minutes to win the game," Silva told reporters after the 34-kick shootout.

"From the first minute, we took control of the game and I think we created enough chances... the crossbar, a lot of crosses, a lot of moments where we should've scored."

Fulham, whose last two Premier League matches have also ended in 1-1 draws, host Newcastle United on Saturday.
