Edwards and Rodrigues meet in unification matchup

Jesse Rodriguez who holds the WBO flyweight belt and Sunny Edwards the IBF flyweight champion meet in a unification matchup in Glendale, Arizona on Saturday night.
Croydon’s Edwards 20-0; 4 goes in against the also unbeaten San Antonio’s Rodriguez 18-0; 11, with both claiming to be the number one flyweight in the world.
Rodriguez is a two-division champion following his defeat of Carlos Cuadros for the WBC junior bantamweight title last February.

The 23-year-old Rodriguez won on a seventh-round stoppage against former champion Sor Srisaket Runvisai in his first defence and then retained the belt against Israel Gonzalez.
He then moved down to flyweight and outscored Cristian Hernandez to claim the vacant WBO belt in April.
Edwards won the IBF title when he outpointed South Africa’s Moruti Mthalane and has now made four successful defences of the belt.
These are two outstanding fighters in a fight that could go either way despite some pundits calling it four Rodriguez.
