No 1 Sinner advances in Cincy as injured opponent withdraws

World No 1 Jannik Sinner moved into the ATP quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Open on Friday as opponent Jordan Thompson withdrew injured.

The Australian was unable to start the third-round match due to a rib injury.

Top seed Sinner, who turned 23 on Friday, will next clash on Saturday with sixth-seeded Montreal finalist Andrey Rublev, who defeated Brandon Nakashima 7-6 (7/5), 6-1.
