Real Sociedad hire American coach Matarazzo

Real Sociedad appointed American coach Pellegrino Matarazzo on Saturday as they bid to turn their disappointing season around.

The Basque side sacked previous coach Sergio Francisco last Sunday and are sitting 16th in LaLiga after a 1-1 draw at Levante earlier on, with the team temporarily led by reserve team manager Jon Ansotegi.

"Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with coach Pellegrino Matarazzo to be the new manager of their first team until the end of the 2026–27 season," said La Real in a statement.

Matarazzo, 48, was last in charge of German side Hoffenheim in the 2023-24 season, having helped Stuttgart return to the Bundesliga before that in his first major coaching role.
