Reigning World Superbike champion Jonathan Rea once again set the pace at Motorland Aragon in Spain on Saturday as he secured pole position for the Teruel round.

Rea broke his own lap record, set just a week earlier, to clinch his 26th pole position in WorldSBK, which puts him tied for third with Troy Bayliss in the all-time pole list.

GOELEVEN Ducati rider Michael Ruben achieved his best WorldSBK qualifying performance by taking second place, after topping the timesheets through all three practice sessions.

Scott Redding put himself in contention to potentially close the 10-point gap to Rea in the championship battle as he placed third in qualifying.

BMW rider Tom Sykes redeemed himself after last week's crash in quick qualifying by grabbing fourth position, 0.406s off Rea's blistering pace.

Honda duo Alvaro Bautista and Leon Haslam produced HRC's best collective qualifying of the year as they placed fifth and sixth respectively.

Further back, Yamaha's Torpak Razgatlioglu recovered from poor showings in FP2 and FP3, where he was outside the top 10, to improve to seventh position, while Ducati rider Chaz Davies took eighth place on the grid.

Alex Lowes, on the second Kawasaki, had to deal with a stomach virus throughout the weekend which limited his running, but he managed a respectable ninth place.

Loris Baz rounded out the top 10 on his Ten Kate Racing Yamaha.
