Cape Town City returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Chippa United in the Betway Premiership encounter played at the Buffalo City Stadium in East London on Saturday evening.

A late goal earned the Citizens their first away win of the season in the league and they climbed up to the 10th spot in the standings. Coach Eric Tinkler's side will be determined to make it back-to-back wins when they host AmaZulu FC on 29 December.

The Chilli Boys, on the other hand, remained fifth in the standings after recording their fourth league defeat of the season. Coach Kwanele Kopo will be keen to ensure that Chippa bounce back to winning ways when they take on Kaizer Chiefs away on December 29.

The first-half saw both teams fail to keep their attempts on target as Prins Tjiueza, who was looking to mark his return from suspension with a goal, saw his shot hit the woodwork 11 minutes into the match.

At the other end, Sixonolo Kwayiba, who scored twice in Chippa's recent 2-0 win over Magesi FC, had a chance to break the deadlock in the 38th minute, but he missed the target and the score was 0-0 at halftime.

The Citizens were the better side after the restart as they created the better chances. Stanley Nwabali, the Chippa goalkeeper, was called into action in the 55th minute and the Nigeria international denied Gabriel Amato.

However, Nwabali was beaten in the 82nd minute when Kayden Francis netted at the near-post with a deflected strike. City then held on to their slender lead and ultimately, secured a hard-fought 1-0 win.
