Elliot Daly has been omitted from England's 32-man squad for Sunday's match against the Barbarians due to a leg injury, with Joe Marler also unavailable for the autumn curtainraiser.

After the non-cap fixture, England travel to face Italy in the final round of the coronavirus-interrupted Six Nations on 31 October, when they will be playing for the title.

"Elliot has had a bump on his leg for a good period of time. It hasn't really worried him and he's been able to train," England coach Eddie Jones said of the full-back.

"We'll do all the various tests and he'll see a consultant and then we'll have a pretty good idea of where he's at," he added.

Jones said Harlequins prop Marler, who will join up with the squad for "reconditioning", is two or three weeks away from being available for selection due to a knee problem.

The coach has indicated he will select a strong side against the Barbarians, using it as a warm-up for the trip to Rome, knowing that a number of players, including his influential Saracens contingent, have not played since 4 October.

"It's a lot different this year," he said. "We've got a number of players who haven't played for four or five weeks.

"We're conscious of the fact we've got the Six Nations game afterwards, so we're looking at this as a two-week selection, getting players ready for Italy and also being right to play against the Barbarians."

Captain Owen Farrell is in the squad although he is short of match practice after serving a five-game ban while Piers Francis returns after recovering from coronavirus.

Exeter, Wasps and Bristol players are all missing due to potential Premiership final commitments.

After the completion of the Six Nations, England will play four matches in the Autumn Nations Cup, taking on Georgia, Ireland and Wales before a final match at home to determine their final position in the competition.
