The Blitzboks returned to the winning podium by downing Kenya 38-5 to win a weakened Canada Sevens tournament in the early hours of Monday morning SA time.

The Sevens side, who were overwhelming favourites in a tournament that didn’t feature Australia, New Zealand or Fiji, had little opposition as they made the final with ease and beat Kenya just as easily.

Due to Covid-19, travelling restrictions and government bans stopped several countries from travelling, and the 2021 World Series will take place over just two rounds - with the second in Edmonton this coming weekend. Many of the normal favourites won’t be involved.

Angelo Davids scored a brace, while Sakoyisa Makata, Chris Grobbelaar, Ronald Brown and Darren Adonis all added their names to the scoresheet to see a commanding 24-0 lead at the break.

They scored six tries in the final through Angelo Davids (2), Sakoyisa Makata, Chris Grobbelaar, Ronald Brown and Darren Adonis and had a commanding 24-0 lead at halftime before powering on to the win.

In the semifinal, a brace from Zain Davids saw them beat Great Britain 26-12 after being 12-7 down at the break while Davids’ hat-trick saw an easy 54-5 win over Spain in the quarterfinal.

"It was amazing just to be out there playing again, especially in front of a great crowd. It was great to have two African teams in the final, and it's always a fierce encounter with Kenya," Powell said.

"I'm really proud of the boys, there's a lot of youngsters who are the next generation of Springboks sevens, and they've done really well."

The Blitzboks will be overwhelming favourites for the Edmonton leg this coming weekend as well.
