South Africa moved confidently into the Dubai 7s semifinals with a strong 29-5 win over Australia in their quarterfinal match.

The defending champions will now face Argentina in the semis - the same team that shocked them at the Tokyo Olympics to end the Blitzboks’ dream of winning Olympic gold.

But in the quarters, the Australians had no answer for the transition and defence from the Blitzboks as they were swamped and given little space to move.

The Blitzboks controlled the game from start to finish and never looked in trouble, underlining the fact they are favourites for the tournament this weekend.

After JC Pretorius opened the scoring, Siviwe Soyizwapi added a brace of tries on either side of halftime before playmaker Selvyn Davids added the fourth to seal the victory.

There were massive celebrations when debutant Tiaan Pretorius scored through a perfect offload from Davids on fulltime, prompting his teammates to pile on in celebration.

The semifinals will take place at 12.16pm and all games are live on Supersport.
