Springbok star Cheslin Kolbe enjoyed a rare start at fly-half for Stade Toulousain in Sunday’s Top 14 against Racing 92.

Stade Toulousain had a crisis at number 10, with reportedly no less than four fly-halves unavailable due to France’s ongoing Six Nations campaign. But the World Cup winner impressed, even taking over the kicking duties and kicking 10 points in their 27-30 loss to Racing 92.

Staying in the Top 14, Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth scored another fantastic try for RC Toulonnais in their 34-17 win over CA Brive. The former Stormers star received the ball in a gap, brushed off the cover defence and rode a tackle over the line for a try to seal the victory.

Double World Cup winner Frans Steyn ran on for his 100th cap for Montpellier on Saturday. His Springbok teammate Handre Pollard was solid with the boot, slotting 11 points while former Cheetahs star Johan Goosen executed a superb cross-kick to put Fijian giant Nemani Nadolo away for one of his three tries as they defeated Aviron Bayonnais 31-29.

Over in Premiership Rugby, Springbok tighthead prop Vincent Koch started for a Sarecens outfit that eased past the Sale Sharks 36-22. For the Sharks, Springbok fly-half Robert du Preez scooped 12 points thanks to a late consolation try, while his brother Daniel also crashed over the whitewash late in the second half.

Springbok Francios Louw scored a try for Bath to help them squeak a narrow 22-21 victory over the Worcester Warriors, while World Cup-winning scrum-half Cobus Reinach was part of a losing Northampton Saints outfit that went down 14-20 to Bristol.

In the Guinness Premiership, former Blue Bulls forward Arno Botha was at his rampaging best as he scored a hat-trick of tries for Munster against his fellow countrymen in the Southern Kings, as the Irish club thrashed them 68-3.

Finally, Springbok legend Beast Matwarira made his Major League Rugby debut for Old Glory DC on Sunday, helping them to a 28-22 win over the Seawolves.
