Monday will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the start of the 1995 Rugby World Cup that was hosted by South Africa and SuperSport viewers will get a chance to relive the Springbok journey to the ultimate prize in rugby from start to finish, with each game being broadcast on the date it took place.

On Monday you will be able to watch the Boks opening their campaign against Australia at Newlands, a day that for many reasons, not the least of them being the way the Cape Town crowd embraced Madiba when he ventured on the field, was almost as memorable as the final that was played in Johannesburg nearly a month later.

The Boks were opening the tournament against the reigning world champions, coached by the legendary Bob Dwyer, captained by Micheal Lynagh and including in their ranks several global stars of that era. No-one gave the hosts a chance of winning, but that was where the South African habit of getting up for the big World Cup occasions started.

The midweek team’s game against Romania, also at Newlands, will follow, also shown in full, on 30 May, followed by the tempestuous showdown with Canada at Boet Erasmus on 3 June. Thereafter you will be able to watch the quarterfinal against West Samoa, played in Johannesburg, on 10 June, a day that will long be remembered for the try scoring exploits of the late Chester Williams, while the semi-final, played in Durban, will follow on 17 June.

Did the Boks win that game fairly or did French forward Abdel Benazzi dot down the try in the King’s Park mud the French claimed he did. You decide if the referee made the right call by watching the tense play-off game in full.

Then comes the decider, a game we’ve watched several times in recent years but why not do it again, as it will be exactly 25 years on from that historic moment. All six games that made up their winning campaign will be screened on CSN, SuperSport 1 and SuperSport 5 at 18.00 on the respective dates.
