The Vodacom Bulls' depth was given a severe blow when the news filtered through that Springbok Sevens midfielder Dylan Sage had fractured his ankle and will be on the sidelines for three months.

Sage is due to undergo surgery this week, but the injury was sustained in a SuperSport Challenge warm-up match against the Sharks in Durban on Friday and will hit the team like a sledgehammer given their brittle depth this season in the midfield.

Prop Simiphiwe Matanzima also joined the injured ranks with a shoulder injury, and will be on the sideline for four to six weeks. Matanzima was injured in the loss against the Cell C Sharks on Friday.

There was some good news for the Bulls though as both Marco van Staden and Tim Agaba both returned to limited training sessions on Monday, but are both unlikely to be available for the Stormers game this weekend.

Van Staden is still recovering from the after effects of a concussion in the pre-season game against Tuks, while Agaba withdrew from the Sharks game with a neck strain.

Young looseforward Muller Uys also returned to training on Monday.
