Second seed Luc Koenig and third seed Heike van Vuuren won the boys’ and girls’ titles, respectively, on the final’s day of the Curro Tennis Junior Series Tournament at Westridge Park Tennis Stadium in Durban.

The 17-year-old Koenig claimed his second International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior singles title after winning the Grade 5 event on Friday.

After claiming his debut title at the J5 Potchefstroom event in February 2020, the Capetonian wasted little time to eliminate compatriot Alexander Edley in straight sets 6-2 6-1 to capture his second ITF title.

Just minutes after his singles match, Koenig joined forces with Devin Badenhorst in the doubles event against unseeded pair of Wade Hermanus and Daniel Wessels. Koenig and Badenhorst battled past Hermanus and Wessels 6-1 6-7(3) 10-4 to clinch the doubles title.

Koenig will be looking to carry his strong form into next weeks’ second leg of the series as he begins a quest for a third ITF crown.

In the girls’ event, third seed Heike van Vuuren bagged her first ITF junior singles title when she upset top seed Leigh van Zyl in three sets.

The 16-year-old Van Vuuren had a lot to prove against Van Zyl and she met the challenge. The 633 ranked Van Vuuren upset the top seed 3-6 6-2 6-2 to lift the trophy.

Van Vuuren and Van Zyl later partnered against Cayline Le Grange and Hailey Troup in the girls’ doubles final. Van Vuuren and Van Zyl claimed the doubles title after a straight sets 7-5 6-2 victory.
