Wolkite City kicked out of Ethiopia Premier League
Wolkite Kenema Football Club have been banished from the Ethiopian Premier League with immediate effect.
The Ethiopia Premier League management company revealed the decision today.
This is because of the club's inability to fulfil the minimum requirements of club licensing.
Many former players and the club's former coach also didn't get paid their salary during their stay at the club.
The Ethiopian Football Federation had given clubs enough timeframe to comply with the club licensing rules, otherwise they won't be allowed to sign players.
18 clubs have been cleared after meeting most of the rules and are able to sign players and have also gotten the green light to participate in the league.
Wolkite unfortunately didn't meet the threshold and as such can't participate in the Premier League.
Wolkite couldn't play their first two league fixtures so far this season against defending last season's champions CBE and runners-up Mechal Sports as the EFF didn't permit them.
The consequence is that Wolkite Kenema withdrew from the Ethiopian Premier League after five seasons in the top flight, meaning, the league will proceed with 18 clubs.
