Barns move to Stellenbosch confirmed
Sanele Barns’s move from Richards Bay to Stellenbosch has been confirmed even though the season is not yet over for the exciting attacker.
Barns signed a pre-contract in January and news of his move to Stellenbosch has been previously leaked but not officially confirmed until Tuesday.
The 27-year-old has been something of a late bloomer but was his club’s talisman this season, scoring five goals.
Richards Bay finished 15th in the DStv Premiership standings and therefore must take part in the promotion-relegation playoffs next month against Barns’s previous club, University of Pretoria, as well as Baroka.
Barns has been at Richards Bay for both their top flight seasons, but previously played at TS Galaxy and AmaTuks.
Stellenbosch are expected to make several new signings in the next weeks as they strengthen their squad for next season, where they compete in African club competition for the first time.
The next transfer window opens on Monday when a flurry of new signings are expected to be announced.
DStv Premiership clubs will look to have all the majority of their new signings in place before they return for pre-season in some four weeks’ time.
