Lesedi Kapinga has signed for Sekhukhune United, only a fortnight after terminating his contract at Orlando Pirates by mutual agreement, the club announced on Thursday.

It is a return to Limpopo Province where his career began with promise and a chance to play regularly in the Betway Premiership again.

No details were given by Sekhukhune of the contract terms for the 29-year-old, who started only two games during his one season stay at Pirates.

He had joined the Buccaneers on a free transfer after being released by Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Kapinga spent three seasons at Sundowns but started only nine games there, which means he has started only 11 matches over the last four seasons.

He made a strong impression after his debut with Black Leopards in 2018 and in his second season with the Thohoyandou-based club scored six goals in 24 starts.

It prompted Sundowns to sign him, but he never made a breakthrough with the Brazilians, nor at the Buccaneers.

Kapinga is among several new signings at Sekhukhune, who finished fourth last season.

The club has already added, among others: Andy Boyeli (Power Dynamos, Zambia), Loydt Kazapua (Chippa United), Keletso Makgalwa (Upington City), Sipho Mbule (Mamelodi Sundowns), Shaune Mogaila (Royal AM), Katlego Mohamme (Mamelodi Sundowns), Relebogile Mokhuoane (Cape Town City), Thabang Monare (Orlando Pirates) and Njabulo Ngcobo (Kaizer Chiefs) to their roster for this season.
