American Gretchen Walsh on Sunday set a new world record in the 50m freestyle, bettering the previous best set by teammate Kate Douglass last week.
Walsh timed 23.55 seconds to finish first at the Sette Colli Trophy in Rome, Sweden's former world record holder Sarah Sjostrom coming second in 23.81.
Italy's Sara Curtis rounded out the podium in a national record of 24.09.
Walsh's training partner Douglass had set the previous best of 23.59sec on June 19.
It is Walsh's second world record, the 23-year-old also topping the charts in the 100m butterfly.
