Leading the charge are South Africa's Akani Simbine, Botswana's Letsile Tebogo and Kenya's Ferdinand Omanyala.
South Africa’s Simbine has been to every global championship since 2016. His consistency on the international circuit is unmatched by any sprinter currently competing and this is evident, going by the fact that he has the highest number of sub-10 clocking’s by an African, with the record at 37!
He has however been on a high this season, winning his sixth national title early this year and racking up four consecutive wins in the build up to Budapest.!
Kenya's Omanyala is not only Africa’s fastest man this season, but also the world’s second fastest man, with his time of 9.84s recorded at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi and will be quietly confident of claiming a medal.
Letsile Tebogo (Botswana) has the potential to medal in both the 100m and the 200m. He has shown he is capable of performing when it matters and that he is in peak form, having set a number of personal bests (PB) performances in the weeks leading to the championship.
Other contenders from Africa:
Shaun Maswanganyi (South Africa) 9.91 | Emmanuel Esseme (Cameroon) 9.96 | Emmanuel Matadi (Liberia) 9.97
