South Africa sprinters Gift Leotlela and Akani Simbine were in action for the SA team on Saturday night, competing in the men's 100m final at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary finishing sixth place (9.98 seconds) and eighth (10.09) respectively.
The race was won by American athlete Kenny Bednarek in 9.85.
Earlier on day two of action at the three-day showpiece, Leotlela (10.03) and Simbine (10.05) had both finished fourth in their semifinal races, becoming the first SA athletes to reach a final at the inaugural edition of the Championship.
On the opening day of competition on Friday, three South Africans were eliminated in the semifinals of their events.
Prudence Sekgodiso took sixth position in her 800m race in 1:59.66 after being involved in a crash and stumbling in the chase for the line, while Marione Fourie was sixth in her 100m hurdles contest in 12.84, and Zakithi Nene ended seventh in his 400m heat in 45.30.
The SA team's campaign comes to a close on Sunday, with Commonwealth Games champion Sinesipho Dambile competing in the men's 200m event on the final day of competition.
Dambile goes in the half-lap semifinals at 6.18pm. If he progresses he will turn out in the final at 8.38pm.
