South Africa middle-distance runner Tshepo Tshite won the men’s 3000m at the Madrid World Indoor Tour Gold meeting on Thursday night.
In only his second appearance over the distance in 7:39.11, Tshite finished ahead of Uruguay’s Valentin Soca (7:39.98), who edged Ethiopia’s Getnet Wale (7:39.98) in the closing stages.
Tshite’s victory comes days after he opened his 2026 season in spectacular fashion on Tuesday night, breaking the South African 3000m short track record at the Czech Indoor Gala in Ostrava.
He finished just 0.12 behind Portuguese athlete Isaac Nader who won the race in 7:38.05.
On Thursday he put things right.
