Takuma Inoue (19-1; 5) retained his WBA bantamweight title when he scored a ninth-round knockout against former IBF junior bantamweight champion Jerwin Ancajas (34-4-2; 23) on Saturday in Tokyo, Japan.

Inoue showed terrific hand speed and was better at infighting against the hard-hitting southpaw Ancajas.

The Japanese fighter was in control throughout against the veteran Filipino, as he scored with left hooks to the head and stinging shots to the body that slowed the challenger down.

In the ninth round, he scored with a big right uppercut that sent Ancajas down in pain as he failed to beat the count.

The scores were 116–111, 117–110, and 119–108.

Going into the fight as the overwhelming favourite, Tanaka did not impress but scored a knockdown midway through the ninth round.

It was Tanaka's fourth WBO belt in four different weight divisions.
