Regis “Rougarou” Prograis won the vacant WBC junior welterweight belt when he knocked out Jose “Chon” Zepeda in the eleventh round on Saturday night at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
After a quiet opening Prograis 28-1; 24 controlled the fight before scoring the knockout in round eleven.
The judges’ scorecards at the end of the tenth round were 98-92, 98-92 and 97-93.
Zepeda’s record dropped to 35-3; 27.
YOKASTA VALLE WINS ON A MAJORITY DECISION
On the same card IBF/WBO female minimumweight champion Yokasta ‘Yoka’ Valle 27-2, 9 from Costa Rica won on a majority points decision against IBF/WBO light flyweight champion Evelyn ‘La Princesita’ Bermudez 17-1-1; 6 from Argentina.
IBF No 1 rated heavyweight Bakhodir ‘The Big Uzbek’ Jalolov 12-0; 12 from Uzbekistan won on a fourth-round technical knockout against Curtis Harper 14-9; 9.
Jalolov made a slow start but sent Harper down in the third round with a big left hand and continued scoring with the left before dropping Harper with a barrage of punches in the fourth round.
Harper made it to his feet, but the referee waved the fight off.
CHARLES CONWELL WINS ON A MAJORITY DECISION
Junior middleweight Charles ‘Bad News’ Conwell 18-0; 13 from Cleveland won on a ten-round majority points decision against Juan Carlos Abreu 25-7-1 of the Dominican Republic in a WBC title eliminator.
The scores were 98-92, 96-94, and 95-95.
DILIAN WHYTE WINS AGAINST JERMAINE FRANKLIN
In a heavyweight bout, Dillian Whyte 29-3; 19 battled against Jermaine Franklin 21-1; 14 before winning on a majority 12 rounds points decision at the Wembley Arena in London on Saturday night.
The scores were 116-112 twice and 115-115.
Heavyweight Fabio Wardley 15-0; 14 won on a third-round technical knockout over Nathan Gorman 19-2, 13 in a clash for the vacant British title.
Wardley scored two knockdowns in the second round and in the third round Gorman went down twice before his corner threw in the towel.
2020 Olympic silver medallist Pat McCormack 3-0; 2 won on points over six rounds against Christian Nicolas Andino 16-6-2; 2 in a welterweight contest.
Hamzah Sheeraz 17-0; 13 who is listed as the No 12 middleweight by the WBC won on a second-round stoppage against River Wilson-Bent 13-2-1; 6 in a clash for the WBC silver title.
Sheeraz was just too strong for Wilson-Bent from the opening bell before sending him to the canvas at 2:55 of round two.
JOHN RYDER WINS WBO INTERIM TITLE
John Ryder 32-5; 18 won the WBO interim middleweight title when Zach Parker 22-1; 16 retired after four rounds because of an injured right hand.
