Gervonta “Tank” Davis from Baltimore, Maryland, defends his WBA lightweight belt against Hector Luis Garcia in a battle of southpaws at the Capital One Arena Baltimore, Maryland, on Saturday night.

Despite troubles outside the ring the 28-year-old Davis, who has a record of 27-0; 25, is an outstanding fighter and one of boxing’s biggest stars.

He goes into the fight against Garcia (16-0; 10) as the favourite, with one betting site having him at minus 1100 to win.

This is a must win for Davis as he will go on to meet top lightweight Ryan Garcia in a super fight.

This stocky fighter is an explosive puncher with terrific hand speed and movement around the ring.

He won the IBF junior lightweight belt in January 2017 against Jose Pedroza (tko 7) and made successful defences against Liam Walsh (tko 3), Francisco Marcelo Fonseca (ko 8), Jesus Marcelo Andres Cueller (tko 3), Hugo Ruiz (ko 1), and Francisco Fonseca (ko 8).

He then moved up to the lightweight class to win the WBA belt aginst Yuriokis Gamboa (tko 12) and has made four successful defences.

Garcia, 31, from the Dominican Republic, has been fighting as a pro since December 2016 and has never been extended.

He won the WBA junior lightweight belt in his last fight when he upset Roger Gutierrez (26-3-1) to win on points.

Garcia is moving up to the lightweight class against Davis and despite his unbeaten record the odds are that Davis will win inside the distance.
