Cafu wins vacant SA title in 26 seconds
Phumelela Cafu from Duncan Village won the vacant South African junior bantamweight title in 26 seconds of the first round when he knocked out Enathi Stelle, in what must be one of the quickest knockouts in the history of South African boxing, at the International Convention Centre in East London on Saturday night.
The 25-year-old Cafu (weighing in at 51,80kg) moved out fast from his corner at the opening bell to the centre of the ring to catch the 25-year-old Stelle (51; 80kg) with a left hook that sent him down and out, flat on his back, where he was counted out by the referee Simphiwe Mbini.
On the same card in a complete mismatch, Khaya Busakwe (12-3-1; 10) retained the South African lightweight title when he stopped Shameeg Williams (3-2-1; 1) in the ninth round.
In a women’s bout, South African junior flyweight champion Nozwelethu Mathonsi (11-2; 3) retained her title on points over 10 rounds against Owethu Rula (4-5; 1).
South African junior lightweight champion Asanda Ginqui (12-1; 78) retained his title on points over 12 rounds against Thembani Mbangatha (13-2; 6).
In a clash for the vacant South African bantamweight title, Landile Ngxeke (13-1-1; 6) won on a fourth-round technical knockout over Lusizo Manzana (10-2; 4).
The tournament was presented by Ayanda Matiti of Xaba Promotions.
