Marlon Tapales outscored the previously unbeaten unified WBA/IBF junior featherweight champion Murodjon Akhmadaliev on Saturday night at the Boeing Centre at Tech Port in San Antonio, Texas.
Tapales won with scores of 118-110 and 115-113 twice.
Tapales improved his record to 37-3; 19 and Akhmadaliev’s record dropped to 11-1; 8.

JESSE RODRIGUEZ WINS VACANT WBO BELT
On the same card, Jesse “BAM” Rodriguez won the vacant WBC junior bantamweight belt on a 12-round unanimous points decision against Cristian Gonzalez.
From the opening bell, Rodriguez pressed the action and was in control throughout with Gonzalez only coming back with the occasional combinations from the outside.
The scores were 118-110, 117-111 and 116-112.
Rodriguez improved his record to 18-0; 11 and Gonzalez’s record dropped to 15-2; 5.
BRIAN MENDOZA KNOCKS OUT SEBASTIAN FUNDORA
In what was considered an upset Brain Mendoza 22-2; 16 won on a seventh-round knockout over the former WBC interim junior middleweight champion Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora 20-1-1; 13 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California on Saturday night.
Mendoza literally chopped down the much taller Fundora with a series of left hooks and right hands that sent Fundora down and out at 39 seconds into the seventh round.
Fundora was leading on all the judges’ scorecards at the time of the knockout.
WBO No 2 and WBC No 4 ranked heavyweight Frank “The Cuban Flash” Sanchez 22-0; 15 won on a first-round stoppage, with three knockdowns, against Daniel “The Mountain” Martz 20-11-1; 17.
Junior welterweight Brandun Lee 28-0; 23 took a ten-round unanimous points decision over Pedro “Roca” Campa 34-3-1; 23.
The scores were 99-91, 97-93 and 98-92.
In a featherweight bout Luis “The Twist” Núñez 19-0; 13 scored a ten-round unanimous points decision over Christian Olivo 20-1-1; 7.
The scores were 100-90, 98-92, and 97-93.
Two-time Olympian and No 6 rated WBA welterweight Gabriel “Captain” Maestre 5-0-1; 4 won against former world champion Devon Alexander 27-8-1; 14, when Alexander did not answer the bell for the fourth round.
Junior lightweight Adrian Corona 9-1-2; 2 and Jerry Perez 14-2-1; 11 fought to an eight-round draw.
42-year-old Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola 39-7-1; 34 knocked out Mathew McKinney 13-7-3, 9 at 1:01 of the second round.
SHAKUR STEVENSON WINS ON A SIXTH-ROUND STOPPAGE
Former two-division world champion Shakur Stevenson 20-0; 10 stopped Shuichiro Yoshino 16-1; 12 in the sixth round of a WBC lightweight title eliminator at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey.
Stevenson was in control from the opening bell and scored knockdowns in rounds two and four before the referee stopped the fight a 1:35 into the sixth round.
Heavyweight Jared “The Real Big Baby” Anderson 14-0; 14 stopped George Arias 18-1; 7 in the fourth round.
Anderson dominated as Arias did not answer the bell for the fourth round.
Olympic silver medallist Keyshawn Davis 8-0; 6 won on a ninth-round stoppage against Anthony “Can You Dig It” Yigit 26-3-1; 10.
Davis scored a knockdown with a body shot at the end of round eight and the referee stopped the fight at the bell for the ninth round. The time was 21 seconds.
He won the vacant WBC USA and WBO Intercontinental lightweight titles.
REIYA ABE WINS AGAINST FORMER IBF CHAMPION
In a featherweight bout IBF, No 3 rated Reiya Abe 25-3-1; 10 outscored former world champion IBF No 7 Kiko Martinez 44-12-2; 31 in Tokyo, Japan on Saturday.
The scores were 119-109 twice and 117-111.
JIN SASAKI RETAINS WBO ASIAN PACIFIC TITLE
WBA No 10 rated Jin Sasaki 15-1-1; 14 retained the WBO Asia Pacific welterweight title against WBO No 8 Keita Obara 26-5-1; 23 on a third-round stoppage.
BRYAN FLORES COMES BACK TO WIN AFTER KNOCKDOWN
Junior welterweight Bryan Flores 24-0-1; 13 came back from a first-round knockdown to win on a ten-round split decision over Shinard Bunch 20-2-1; 16 on Friday night at the Cache Creek Casino in Brooks, California.
The scores were 96-93 for Bunch, and 97-92, 95-94 for Flores.
Junior middleweight Guido Schramm 16-1-1; 9 won on a majority ten round points over Jahyae Brownn 13-1; 9. Scores were 95-95, 98-92, and 97-93.
In a junior middleweight clash Raul Garcia 12-0-1; 10 and Robert Terry 9-0-1; 3 fought to an eight-round draw.
