Jaron 'Boots' Ennis remains undefeated

IBF interim welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis maintained his unbeaten record when he knocked out the IBF No 2-rated Roiman “Flaco de Oro” Villa in the 10th round, on Saturday night at the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The time was 1:27.

Ennis controlled the fight from the opening round and stunned Villa in the sixth round.

He then punished him in every round until the knockout, with a barrage of punches in the 10th round.

Ennis improved his record to 31-0; 28 and Villa’s record dropped to 25-2; 24.

The most anticipated matchup in the welterweight division will be Ennis against the winner of the upcoming clash between Terrence Crawford and Errol Spence.

UNDERCARD

In a middleweight bout, “Marvelous” Marquis Taylor (15-1-2; 1) upset the previously unbeaten Yoelvis Gómez (6-1; 5), winning on a ten-round unanimous points decision.

FORMER WORLD CHAMPION NERY WINS IN TWO

Former world champion and the WBC No 2-ranked junior featherweight Luis Nery (35-1; 27) smashed Froilan Saludar (33-7-1; 23) to defeat in the second round on Saturday night at the Recinto Ferial Metepec in Metepec, Mexico.

Saludar was down three times before the fight was called off.

SCHOFIELD KEEPS UNBEATEN RECORD

Lightweight Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield (15-0; 11) continued his unbeaten streak when he scored a ten-round unanimous points decision over Haskell “Hackman” Rhodes (28-5-1; 13) on Saturday night at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Schofield scored two knockdowns in the seventh round and one in the eighth.

Schofield suffered a bad cut under his left eye in the ninth round but was able to finish the fight.

The scores were 100-87 on all three judges’ scorecards.

Fighting at lightweight, former world champion Joseph “JoJo” Diaz (33-4-1; 15) won on points over 10 rounds against Jerry Perez (14-3-1; 11). The scores were 97-93 twice and 98-92.

The fight was moved from lightweight to welterweight when Diaz came in overweight.

PACHECO WINS IN THE FOURTH ROUND

WBO No 3-rated junior middleweight Diego Pacheco (19-0; 16) won on a fourth-round technical knockout against Manuel Gallegos (19-2-1; 16) on Friday night at Cintermex in Monterrey, Mexico.

Pacheco scored a knockdown in the fourth round, but Gallegos managed to beat the count.

However, after a barrage of punches from Pacheco, the referee stopped the fight at 2:45 into the round.

WBC No 1-rated junior lightweight Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez (34-1; 31) won on a third-round stoppage against the late substitute Hector Garcia (20-8-4; 13).

WBO No 13 junior bantamweight Jonathan Rodriguez 24-2-1; 16 and WBC No 11 Israel Gonzalez 28-5-2; 11 fought to a 10-round draw. Scores were 96-94 Gonzalez, 96-94 Rodriguez and 95-95.
