Khaya Busakwe of Soweto makes the first defence of his South African lightweight title when he meets Ayanda Nkosi from Katlehong at the Meropa Casino in Polokwane on Saturday night.
The 33-year-old Busakwe (9-3-1; 9) made his pro debut in August 2018 and won five fights in style before suffering his first loss on 31 August 2018 against Denis Mwale, who stopped him in the fifth round.
He won his next two fights before losing on a ninth-round technical knockout against Tshifhiwa Munyai in a challenge for the South African lightweight title.
After fighting to a draw with Talent Baloyi and losing on a third-round knockout against Kaine Fourie he challenged Lusanda Komanisi for the South African lightweight title in East London.
There was nothing in it through the first two rounds before Komanisi (27-6) dislocated his shoulder in the third round and could not continue and the title was awarded to Busakwe.
Nkosi (15-1; 9) made his pro debut on 27 July 2013 and won his first four fights before suffering the only loss on his record against Thembani Hobyani on points over four rounds in June 2015.
He captured the South African lightweight title on 30 June 2019 winning on a sixth-round technical knockout against Thomas Mokwane and in his next fight he won the vacant World Boxing Federation lightweight title, when Emanuel Lopez retired in the seventh round.
He never defended the WBF title and in his most recent fight on 23 December last year he scored a fifth-round technical knockout against Luthando Mkwini.
The odds favour the more experienced Nkosi who could win inside the distance.
On the undercard Khensahosi Makondo meets Congolese Jacques Muvud for the vacant WBF Intercontinental middleweight belt.
