Ryan Garcia wins on a majority decision

Kingry” Ryan Garcia 26-1; 20 won on a 12-round majority points decision over previously unbeaWBC junior welterweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney 31-1; 15 on Saturday night at Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York.

 

Garcia did not make the weight by 1.45 kilogrammes, so this was a non-title fight with Haney retaining his title.

The scores were 115-109, 114-110, and 112-112.

Garcia 26-1; 20 stunned Haney with a left hook in the first round, but Haney 31-1; 15 then outboxed him from round two to six, but in the seventh round, Garcia dropped Haney with a left hook. Garcia scored knockdowns in the tenth and eleventh rounds.

Since Garcia didn’t make weight, Haney remains the champion.

On the same card, WBO No 1, WBC No 6, and IBF No 7 junior welterweight Arnold Barboza Jr. 30-0; 11 won on a controversial ten-round split decision against WBO No 8 Sean “The Public Nuisance” McComb 18-2; 5. Scores were 98-92 for McComb, 96-94, and 97-93 for Barbosa. The fans booed the decision.

WBA No 5, WBO No 10, and WBC No 14 super middleweight Bektemir “The Bully” Melikuziev 14-1; 10 won on an eight-round technical decision against the previously unbeaten Pierre Dibombe 22-1-1; 12. The scores were 79-73 twice and 78-74.

WBA No 5 David “Medallita” Jimenez, 16-1, outworked WBA No 1. John “Scrappy” Ramirez 13-1, 9 over twelve rounds to claim the WBA interim junior bantamweight title. Scores were 117-111, 117-111, and 116-112.

WBC No 3 junior middleweight Charles “Bad News” Conwell 19-0; 14 won on a sixth-round technical knockout over Nathaniel Gallimore, 22-8-1, 17. The time was 52 seconds into the round.

WBC No 7 super middleweight Sergiy Derevyanchenko, 15-5; 10 outclassed Vaughn Alexander (18-11-1, 11 KOs) over ten rounds. Derevyanchenko scored a knockdown in round eight. Scores were 100-89 x 3.

Super middleweight Darius Fulghum 11-0; 10 stopped Cristian Olivas 22-11; 19 in the fourth round.

Super middleweight Amari Jones, 12-0; 11 stopped Armel Mbumba-Yassa, 10-2, 7 in the sixth round.

CAIN SANDOVAL KEEPS UNBEATEN RECORD

Junior welterweight Cain Sandoval, 13-0; 11 from Sacramento, California, won on a hard-fought ten-round points decision against Angel ‘Sharky’ Rebollar, 8-4; 3 from South Gate, California, on Saturday night at the Commerce Casino in Commerce, California.

SAM NOAKES WINS EBU TITLE

Unbeaten WBO No 10 and WBC No 15 lightweight Sam Noakes 14-0; 13 won on points over 12 rounds against the 38-year-old Yvan Mendy 48-7-1; 22 to claim the vacant EBU European title on Saturday night at York Hall in London. The scores were 120–108 on all three judges’ scorecards.

BRANDON ADAMS RETURNS AFTER MORE THAN THREE YEARS

After more than three years, junior middleweight Brandon “The Cannon” Adams, 24-3; 16 returned to action to win on a third-round knockout against round Ismael “Maelo” Villarreal, 13-3; 9 on Friday night at the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The time was 2:59.

In another junior middleweight bout, Olympian Francisco “Bebu” Veron 14-0-1; 10 outpointed Angel “Relampago” Ruiz 18-3-1; 13 over ten rounds. The scores were 99-91, 100-90, 96-94.

In the main event, junior welterweight Dakota “Lone Wolf” Linger 14-6-3; 10 stopped previously unbeaten Kurt “Scooby” Scoby 13-1; 11 in the sixth round. Time 2:21.
