Vergil Ortiz Jr wins WBA welterweight eliminator

In a WBA welterweight title eliminator Vergil Ortiz Jr. stopped Michael McKinson in the ninth round of a scheduled twelve at the Dickie’s Arena in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday night and retained the WBO International title.

Ortiz 19-0; 19 scored knockdowns in round eight and nine before the fight was stopped.

McKinson’s record dropped 22-1; 2.

UNDERCARD

In a junior middleweight bout, Blair “The Flair” Cobb 16-1-1; 10 from Philadelphia, PA, scored knockdowns, once in the opening and twice in the second round against former world champion Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker 27-3-3; 18 to win on a ten round unanimous points decision.

The scores were 97-90, 97-90 and 96-91.

In a woman’s bout WBC, WBA, and Ring Magazine flyweight champion Marlen Esparza 13-1; 1 from Houston, Texas retained her belts against Eva Guzman 19-2; 11 on points over ten rounds.

The scores were 98-92 twice and 99-91.

Light heavyweight Bektemir “Bek the Bully” Melikuziev 10-1; 8 stopped Sladan Janjanin 32-13; 24 in three rounds. The time was 2:18.

MICHAEL CONLAN OUTSCORES MIGUEL MARRIAGA

Former two-time Olympian featherweight Michael “Mick” Conlan 17-1; 8 beat Miguel Marriaga 30-6; 26 on points over ten rounds on Saturday night at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The scores were 99-89 and 99-98 twice.

DALTON SMITH WINS VACANT BRITISH TITLE

Dalton Smith 12-0; 10 won on a sixth-round technical knockout against Sam O’Maison 17-4-1; 7 at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield, England on Saturday night to win the vacant British junior welterweight title.

The time was 2:55.

In a heavyweight bout Johnny Fisher 6-0; 5 won on a second-round knockout against Michal Reissinger 3-2; 2. The time was 39 seconds into the round.

Jordan Thompson 14-0; 11 came back from a tenth-round knockdown to win on a ten round unanimous points decision over Vasil Ducar 11-6-1; 10.

The scores were 97-92 and 96-93 twice.
