Gervonta “Tank” Davis retains WBA regular belt

Gervonta “Tank” Davis retained his WBA “regular” lightweight belt when WBA junior lightweight champion Hector Luis Garcia did not come out for the ninth round at the Capital One Arena in Washington District Columbia on Saturday night.

In a closely fought and competitive fight through the first six rounds, Garcia held his own but in the seventh round Davis began to score with some heavy punches and in round eight he hurt Garcia with some stinging shots. that seemed to have done some damage as the challenger couldn't answer the bell for the ninth round.

Davis improved his record to 28-0; 26 and Garcia’s record dropped to 16-1; 10.

UNDERCARD

Jaron “Boots” Ennis 30-0; 27 won on a twelve-round unanimous points decision over IBF No 4 rated Karen Chukhadzhian 21-2; 11 in a clash for the interim IBF welterweight belt.

Ennis was in control throughout to win with scores of 120-108 on all three judges’ scorecards.

In an IBF welterweight title eliminator, IBF No 9 Roiman Villa 26-1; 24 won on a twelve-round majority points decision over previously undefeated IBF No 8 rated Rashidi Ellis 24-1; 15.

Ellis scored two knockdowns in the last round to win with scores of 114-112 twice and 113-113.

Two-division world champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade 32-0; 19 won on a ten-round unanimous points decision against Desmond Nicholson 26-5-1; 22 in a super middleweight bout. The scores were 100-88 on all three scorecards after Andrade scored knockdowns in rounds two and ten.

Junior welter weight Michael Ogundo 17-16; 14 stopped former world champion Lamont Peterson 35-6-1; 17 in the fourth round.

In a junior middleweight bout, Vito Mielnicki Jr. 14-1; 9 won in a one-sided contest over Omar Rosales 9-2-1; 5 after scoring a knockdown in the third round and the corner threw in the towel in the fourth round.

Junior welterweight Brandun Lee 27-0; 23 stopped Diego Luque 21-11-2; 10 in the fourth round.

In a junior middleweight contest, Travon Marshall 7-0; 6 stopped Shawn West 7-3-1; 4 in less than a minute of the first round.

Super middleweight Kyrone Davis 17-3-1; 6 outscored Cristián Fabián Ríos 23-16-3; 7 over eight rounds.

MELVIN JERUSALEM WINS WBO BELT

Melvin Jerusalem 20-2; 12 from the Philippines won the WBO minimumweight belt when he scored a second-round knockout against defending champion Masataka Taniguchi 16-4; 11 in Osaka, Japan on Friday night.

The time was 1:04.

The southpaw Taniguchi the favourite looked good in winning the opening round but in round two Jerusalem scored with a perfect right to the head that sent Jerusalem down on his pants.

He tried to beat the count but was on unsteady feet as referee Roberto Ramirez Jr. waved the fight off.

On the same card IBF minimumweight champion Daniel Valladares 26-3-1-1ND; 15 KOs), from Mexico retained his belt at 2 minutes 48 seconds of the third round in a no-contest, when challenger southpaw Ginjiro Shigeoka 8-0-1ND; 6 of Japan was unable to continue after an accidental head butt.
