Julio Cesar Martinez retained the WBC flyweight title when he stopped Ronal Batista in the 11th round on Saturday night at the Estadio Akron in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico.
For the first six rounds Batista held his own but was knocked down in the seventh round.
Through rounds eight to ten Batista was punished before the referee stopped the fight in the 11th round.
The time was one minute.
Martinez improved his record to 29-2; 14 and Batista’s record dropped 15-3; 9.

GABRIEL GOLLAZ VALENZUELA WINS ON A SPLIT DECISION
Junior welterweight Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela (27-3-1; 16) won on a ten-round split decision against Steve Spark (16-3; 10).
Valenzuela scored a knockdown in the sixth round and landed the better shots.
The scores were 96-93, 95-94 Valenzuela and 95-94 Spark.
Former WBC light heavyweight champion Oleksandr “The Nail” Gvozdyk (19-1; 15) stopped Ricards Bolotniks (19-7-1; 8) in the sixth round.
The time was 1:53.
The 18-year-old featherweight Nathan Rodriguez (11-0; 7) won a majority decision over Alexander “Popeye” Mejia (19-6; 8).
The scores were 95-95, 96-93, 96-94.

WBC junior welterweight champion Regis Prograis (28-1; 24) has signed a long-term promotional deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom.
He is scheduled to make the first defence of his title against Liam Paro (23-0; 14) at the Smoothie King Centre in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Saturday 17 June.
JOSHUA BUATSI OUTSCORES PAWEL STEPIEN
Light heavyweight Joshua Buatsi (17-0; 13), who is rated at No 1 by the WBA and at No 2 by the WBO, won on a ten-round unanimous points decision against IBF No 4 Pawel Stepien (18-1-1; 12) on Saturday night at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham, England.
Buatsi was in control throughout and won with scores of 98-92, 97-94 and 100-90.
