Brandon Figueroa wins WBC interim featherweight title

Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa from Weslaco, Texas won on a 12-round unanimous points decision against Filipino Mark “Magnificent” Magsayo on Saturday night at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California to claim the WBC interim featherweight title.

Magsayo made a fast start and exchanged big right hands with Figueroa

However, Figueroa finished strongly to win with scores of 118-108 and 117-109 twice.

Figueroa improved his record to 24-1-1; 18 and Magsayo’s record dropped to 24-2; 16.

UNDERCARD

In what was considered an upset, middleweight Armando “Toro” Resendiz 14-1; 10 won on a tenth-round stoppage against former unified world champion, Jarrett “Swift” Hurd 24-3; 16.

Resendiz was in control from the opening round and was warned for head butts and Hurd was warned on two occasions for low blows.

On the same card, 19-year-old middleweight Elijah Garcia 14-0; 12 from Phoenix won on a fourth-round knockout against Amilcar Vidal 16-1; 12 of Uruguay.

The time was 2:17.

Former world title challenger, Terrell Gausha 23-3-1; 12 won a ninth-round technical knockout against Brandyn Lynch 13-1-1; 10 in a junior middleweight bout. The time was 50 seconds.

ANGEL FIERRO RETAINS NABO TITLE

On Saturday night at the Polideportivo Arena in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico the WBO No 5 rated Angel Fierro 20-1-2; 16 retained his NABO junior middleweight title against Eduardo Estela 14-2; 9. Fierro scored a knockdown in the fourth round before he smashed Estela to the canvas in the seventh round. The time was 2:59.

OHARA DAVIES AND OTABEK KHOLMATOV WIN ELIMINATORS

In a WBA junior middleweight title eliminator Ohara Davies 25-2; 18 stopped Lewis Ritson 23-3; 13 in the ninth round on Saturday night at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle, England

On the same card in a WBA featherweight final eliminator, Thomas Patrick Ward 33-1-1; 5 was stopped by Otabek Kholmatov 11-0; 10 in the fifth round.

AGIT KABAYEL WINS EUROPEAN HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE

Heavyweight Agit Kabayel 23-0; 15 who is listed at No 8 by the IBF had to come off the canvas in round two to win on a third-round knockout against Agron Smakici 19-2; 17 to become a European champion for the second time on Saturday night at the Ruhrcongress in Bochum, Germany.

SIVENATHI NONTSHINGA HOPING TO DEFEND IBF BELT

Sivenathi “Special One” Nontshinga 11-0; 9 is hoping to defend his IBF junior flyweight belt against No 6 rated Filipino Regie Suganob 13-0; 4 in East London, subject to Rumble Africa Promotions (RAP) raising the necessary funding.

Both the management of Nontshinga and Suganob have been advised by the IBF that negotiations for the rights to stage the fight must commence immediately and be concluded by March 28.

The other main organisation champions are WBA and WBC Kenshiro Teraji (Japan) and WBO, Jonathan Gonzalez (Puerto Rico).
