Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete retained the WBO featherweight belt with a sixth-round knockout win over Eduardo Baez on Saturday night at the Pechanga Arena (formerly known as the San Diego Sports Arena) in San Diego, California.
Baez (21-3-2; 7) was out-boxing the champion through rounds four to five when Navarrete (36-1; 30) sent him down and out with a big shot to the liver at one minute and five seconds into the sixth round.
ALBERTO PUELLO WINS VACANT WBA JUNIOR WELTERWEIGHT BELT
Alberto Puello (21-0; 10) won on a 12-round split decision over Batyr Akhmedov (9-2; 8) on Saturday night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida in a clash for the vacant WBA junior welterweight belt.
The scores were 117-111 for Puello and 115-113 for Akhmedov.
On the same card, Hector Garcia (16-0; 10) won the WBA junior lightweight belt when he outscored the defending champion Roger Gutierrez (26-4-1; 20) over 12 rounds.
The scores were 118-110 and 117-111 twice.
In a welterweight bout Louie Lopez (12-1-1; 4) won on points over eight rounds against Ingles Diaz (11-1; 6). The scores were 77-75 twice and 78-74.
On the same card, in a clash of former world champions, late substitute Sergey Lipinets (17-2-1; 13) won on an eighth-round stoppage against Omar “Panterita” Figueroa (28-3-1; 19) in a junior welterweight bout. Lipinets won the WBC silver title.
Junior welterweight Brandun Lee (26-0; 22) won on a ten-round unanimous points decision over Will Madera (17-2-3; 10).
RUBEN TORRES WINS IN SEVEN
Lightweight Ruben “Ace” Torres (19-0; 16) won on a seventh-round knockout over Cristian Baez (18-2; 17) on Saturday night at the Omega Products International Event Centre in Corona, California.
Both fighters were knocked down in the in the seventh round with Torres scoring a questionable knockdown.
With Baez still complaining to the ref about the knockdown Torres knocked him out with a big left hook. Time was 1:53.
In a welterweight bout Louie Lopez (12-1-1; 4) outpointed Elias “Ingles” Diaz (11-1; 6) over eight rounds.
