Former four-division world champion Roman “Chocalito” Gonzalez completely dominated the current WBC flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinez to win the WBC Diamond junior bantamweight title on Saturday night at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California.
The scores were 118-110, 117-111 and 116-112.
Both fighters attacked from the opening bell, but Gonzalez scored with the more accurate punches.
Gonzalez began to dominate from round seven and was a clear winner at the end.
Gonzalez improved his record 51-3; 41 and Martinez’ record dropped to 18-2; 14.
On the same card the IBF No. 3 and WBO No. 4 featherweight Mauricio “Bronco” Lara 24-2-1; 17 won a third-round knockout against Emilio Sanchez 19-2; 12.
He scored a knockdown in the first round before sending Sanchez down and out just before the bell in round three.
RAMIREZ WINS WBC ELIMINATOR
On Friday night at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California in a WBC junior welterweight eliminator the WBC No. 2 and WBO No. 7 rated Jose Ramirez 27-1; 17 won on a twelve round unanimous points decision over the WBC No. 10 and WBO No. 6 listed Jose “Sniper” Pedraza 29-4; 14.
BREIDIS TO DEFEND IBF BELT AGAINST OPETAIA
Mairis Briedis 28-1; 20 is scheduled to defend the IBF cruiserweight belt against his mandatory challenger Jai Opetaia 21-0; 17 on the May 11 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia.
MURATA AND GOLOVKIN TO MEET IN UNIFICATION BOUT
