Leigh Wood won on twelfth round knockout against Michael Conlan to retain the WBA secondary belt at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, England on Saturday night.However, he was behind on points before blasting the challenger out at 1 minute 25 seconds into the last round.
Conlan scored a big knockdown just before the bell in the first round. The challenger continued to dominate in the second round and was in control through to the tenth round.Conlan appeared to be well on his way to winning the belt before Wood smashed him through the ropes and out of the ring in the last round.
The challenger was ahead on the scorecards going into the last round.Wood improved his record to 26-2; 16 and Conlan’s record dropped 16-1; 8.
Conlan was taken from the ring on a stretcher and rushed to hospital.However, after a brain scan it was reported that he was out of danger.

Terri Harper 12-1-1; 6 won on points over ten rounds against Yamila Belen Abellaneda 13-5-1, 3 to capture the woman’s WBA Intercontinental lightweight title. The scores were 99-91 on all three judges’ scorecards.
