South Africans can relive the magic of Chasing the Sun 1, the story of the Springboks’ awe-inspiring 2019 Rugby World Cup win in Japan, which returns to SuperSport screens on 25 February and 9 March 2024.

A massive hit with diverse audiences across the country for its powerful storytelling that transcended rugby, Chasing the Sun 1 was hailed by critics as ‘sublime’, ‘emotional’ and ‘riveting’.

Now, the story about one of the Springboks’ greatest triumphs is being re-broadcast on SuperSport Variety 4 (DStv Channel 209), starting this weekend, and will be available to DStv customers, including our Access subscribers.

This is ahead of the release of its highly-anticipated sequel, Chasing the Sun 2, which premieres on Sunday 24 March at8pm on SuperSport Grandstand (DStv Channel 201) and M-Net (DStv Channel 101).

It captures the Springboks’ incredible 2023 journey against all odds to become four-time world champions in France and how the team used sport to inspire the nation.

“Chasing the Sun is a story that goes beyond rugby and sport, which is why we’re excited to give South Africans who have not watched Part 1 the opportunity to do so and others the chance to revisit the rollercoaster of emotions ahead of the premiere of Chasing the Sun 2. It’s a documentary series that has gripped the nation once before and we feel it will inspire the country once more,” says Rendani Ramovha, CEO of SuperSport.

“The upcoming Chasing the Sun 2 is about one team showing what we can achieve as a nation. The story transcends the four corners of the field and touches the hearts of all South Africans. It’s a story of hope, triumph over adversity, proving that we’re ultimately stronger together,” he concludes.

Binge watch all five episodes of Chasing the Sun 1 on Sunday 25 February starting at 9am to 2pm and again on Saturday 9 March, on SuperSport Variety 4 (DStv Channel 209).
