The Dafabet Warriors finally opened their Cricket SA One-Day Cup bank account by beating Six Gun Grill Western Province by six wickets at St George's Park on Wednesday afternoon.
The Warriors', who had been winless after three games in the competition, also inflicted the first defeat upon WP after they had enjoyed a four-game winning streak. The home side comfortably chased down the 156-run target.
Captain Diego Rosier took on the responsibility of guiding his team over the line with a composed half-century. Although he fell for 52 (68 balls) when he top-edged a sweep shot off legspinner Junaid Dawood to short fine-leg Mihlali Mpongwana, the skipper had done his job.
Rosier recieved good support from Matthew Breetzke with the right-hander also striking a fluent unbeaten half-century off 47 balls.
Breetzke finished off the match in style with two successive scintillating lofted cover drives for six off Mihlali Mpongwana.
Tristan Stubbs also played his part with brisk 19 before Nandre Burger delivered a peach of a delivery to end the Proteas star's cameo.
The victory was though set up the Warriors seamers earlier in the day though with former Western Province seamers Akhona Nyaka and Ziyaad Abrahams both picking up three wickets apiece.
Glenton Stuurman, Beyers Swanepoel and Stubbs also chipped away with a wicket apiece.
It was, however, Proteas seamer Stuurman that made the critical intial breakthrough when he had the in-form Tony de Zorzi caught by Wihan Lubbe for a duck.
Province never quite recovered from losing their run-machine with only Jonathan Bird (26) and Yaseen Vallie (72 off 98 balls) making any impression on the scoreboard.
Province were in a relatively secure space at 85/2 after 21.1 overs, but lost their remaining eight wickets for the addition of just 70 runs.
The way the middle-order fell away - and not for the first time this season - will be a major concern for coach Salieg Nackerdien with a couple of crucial games on the horizon.
