The Gbets Rocks powered to an impressive eight-wicket win over Six Gun Grill Western Province just before lunch on day four of their CSA Four Day series clash at Boland Park in Paarl on Saturday.
After bowling out the visitors for 196 in their second innings, the hosts were set a relatively easy 72 runs to win the match.
Despite losing Janneman Malan for a second-ball duck in the first over, caught by Eddie Moore off the bowling of Kyle Simmonds, Pieter Malan, 33no off 39 balls (4x4), and Stiaan van Zyl, 31 off 28 (6x4), hammered them to the brink.
Van Zyl was then bowled by Beuran Hendricks, leaving Aviwe Mgijima to come in and pump his first ball to the boundary to seal the win.
At the start of play on day four, Province resumed their second innings on 142 for four, with just a slender 17-run lead and needing Moore (61) and George Linde (24) to build a good partnership.
However, Hardus Viljoen bowled Moore early as they fell to 145 for five, which started a slide that saw them lose their last six wickets for just 51 runs, with only Mihlali Mpongwana (29) providing a bit of resistance.
Viljoen starred with the ball, picking up 6-53, while Shaun von Berg claimed 3-78 as they shared most of the wickets.
Earlier in the match, Province batted first and scored 355 all out in their first innings, with Jonathan Bird (78), Daniel Smith (62), Linde (50), Moore (44) and Simmonds (41) making positive contributions.
Achille Cloete, 4-67, and Michael Copeland, 3-44, were the star bowlers for the Rocks.
The home side responded with 480 all out as Mgijima (105) struck an impressive century, while Pieter Malan (94), Copeland (86) and Von Berg (83) all made impressive contributions.
Mpongwana was the pick of the Province bowlers, claiming 3-46.
