Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers became the first team in the 2022 / 23 season to inflict defeat on the Six Gun Grill Western Province side in this weekend’s Cricket South Africa (CSA) Women’s Provincial T20 Cup on Sunday.

The newly promoted Garden Route Badgers claimed a comfortable seven-wicket victory at the Six Gun Grill Recreation Ground, with all-rounder Micaéla Andrews starring in the successful run chase with an unbeaten half-century.

In Potchefstroom, the DP World Lions bounced back from a 50-over defeat to claim a five-wicket triumph over their neighbours, the North West Dragons, at the Witrand Oval.

The other match in Division One was affected by wet conditions as the clash between the Fidelity Titans and the Hollywoodbets Dolphins was called off without a ball being bowled due to a wet outfield.

In Division Two, Boland continue their surge as they walloped the Eastern Cape Iinyathi by 57 runs thanks to contributions from Zizipho Mdebuka (66 off 57; 9 fours) and Tabitha le Grange (4 / 12).

Northern Cape Heat completed their double over the KwaZulu-Natal Tuskers this weekend with a commanding eight-wicket win at the Kimberley Oval inspired by Kele Moraki (3 / 13) and Lauren van Heerden (30).

There was another abandoned match in the second division as Mpumalanga’s T20 Cup clash against Eastern Storm was cancelled due to unplayable conditions.

In one of the biggest results in the team’s recent history, the Badgers began on the front foot by winning the toss and electing to bowl first. Despite Andrie Steyn’s outstanding knock worth 66 off 56 balls (7 fours), the Badgers bowlers remained disciplined and made it difficult for the visitors to kick on with the bat as Province were limited to 118 / 3 after 20 overs.

In their chase, the Badgers turned to bowling all-rounder Andrews to step up with the willow, as she smashed 10 fours on her way to a match-winning 37-ball 58*, alongside Julandi Saayman (23*), to secure the surprise Western Cape derby result over the defending T20 champions.

At the Witrand Oval, Lions’ Kgomotso Rapoo (3 / 13) and Kirstie Thomson (2 / 12) were the stars of the show as they impressed with the ball to restrict the Dragons to 86 / 9 in their 20 overs.

The Lions made the chase of the below par target look simple, as Thomson (35) and Nonkululeko Thabethe (15) top-scored for the visitors to help them surpass the Dragons’ total with an over and five wickets to spare.

The women’s domestic season will complete their action of 2022 with a final round of the CSA Women’s One-Day and T20 Cup for the year between 03-04 December.
