SA20, the all-new T20 cricket league, strides into the spotlight on Monday with the very first players’ auction.

With a slew of big names in the mix, anticipation is building for what is expected to be a feverish afternoon in Cape Town. The action, so to speak, will be broadcast live on SuperSport Cricket and SS Grandstand from 1pm on Monday, with the auction itself beginning at 2pm.

The six franchises doing the bidding are Joburg Super Kings, Durban’s Super Giants, Pretoria Capitals, Paarl Royals, MI Cape Town, and Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

Over 300 cricketers will go under the hammer after more than 500 players registered their interest. Twenty-two players have been pre-signed by the franchises, and the stakes are high as to where the teams will spend their remaining R34-million ($2-million) salary budget.

Many big names will be on offer, among them Heinrich Klaasen, Jimmy Neesham (NZ), Rassie van der Dussen, Tabraiz Shamzi, Lungi Ngidi, Tristan Stubbs, Rilee Roussouw, Pathum Nissanka (Sri Lanka), Jason Roy (UK), Temba Bavuma and Eoin Morgan (UK).

Meanwhile, prominent formers cricketers Mark Nicholas, Pommie Mbangwa, Shaun Pollock, Neil McKenzie and Chris Morris will be analysing the auction for viewers on SuperSport.

Pearl Thusi and Nqobile Mahlambi will be co-hosting, while several prominent content creators – the All aXXcess Crew - will add a unique dynamic to the SA20 auction experience. Look out for the unique takes of Joey Rasdien, Sol Phenduka, Babalwa Mabona, Nqobile Ndlovu, Zenande Funani and Kuhle Sonkosi.

Apart from the main broadcast, SuperSport Blitz will take the first half hour with regular updates thereafter.

For those on the go, or in the office, the proceedings will be streamed on the SA20 website (https://www.sa20.co.za) and YouTube, and the DStv app.

The first edition of the tournament is scheduled to take place from January 2023.
