Gbets Rocks squad bolstered for 2023-24 season
Cricket Boland have announced its senior professional squad for the upcoming 2023-24 season. The Gbets Rocks have been bolstered by the signings of Proteas, Keegan Petersen and Glenton Stuurman as well as Aviwe Mgijima and Akhona Mnyaka, two experienced franchise cricketers.
Top-order batsman Janneman Malan is also now contracted fulltime by the Rocks, having previously had a national contract.
The Rocks say goodbye to Bamanye Xenxe (North West Dragons) as well as Ruan Terblanche and Khwezi Gumede who have both joined the Garden Route Badgers of the South Western Districts.
Experienced bowling coach, Henry Williams, a former Protea himself, says he is happy with the squad they’ve assembled.
“I am of the opinion that we have contracted a very strong squad who will be able to be competitive in all formats. Our squad is more experienced now with all our new recruits being seasoned performers. We welcome Keegan Petersen back to Boland Park. He has since become a national player and is now a top batsman who will strengthen our batting. So too will Aviwe Mgijima who will come in in the middle order and can break partnerships with his offspinners. We’ve played against Glenton Stuurman a lot over the years, and he is top opening bowler who has also played for the national team. Left arm seamer Akhona Mnyaka is another new recruit who has got great abilities, especially in the one-day format,” said Williams.
Jevano Baron and Aiden du Toit have earned themselves high-performance contracts for the first time.
