Shivam Dube’s brutal, late batting assault was the highlight for the Chennai Super Kings as they thrashed the Gujarat Titans by a daunting 63-runs in their IPL match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday.

Dube built on a solid start to help defending champions CSK post a formidable total of 206-6 after being asked to bat first and the Titans were never in the contest. slumping to a meagre 143-8 in their 20 overs.

Dube smashed five sixes, including two in a row, against left-arm spinner Ravisrinivasan immediately after he had Ajinkya Rahane (12) stumped with his first ball.

Dube also belted Rashid Khan and seamers Spencer Johnson and Mohit Sharma for legside maximums as he reached 51 from just 22 balls before Rashid Khan had him caught at cover with a typically well disguised googly.

New Zealand opener Rachin Ravindra gave the defending champions a flying start with a brilliant 46 from 20 balls (6x4, 3x6) while captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was made to look pedestrian during his 46 from 36 balls.

Ravindra has made a blazing start to his IPL career and was unfortunate not to reach 50 when ‘keeper Wriddhimam Saha had the presence of mind and hand-speed to stump him when a Rashid Khan delivery struck him on the pads and dropped onto the ground with the batter out of his crease.

Daryl Mitchell contributed 24 from 20 balls while 20-year-old Sameer Rizvi made an instant impression on IPL debut by slog-sweeping his first ball from Rashid (4-0-49-2) for another six over deep backward square leg.

He followed it with another legside six a few balls later before departing for a whirlwind 14 from just six balls.

Gujarat’s run chase was undone immediately by Deepak Chahar (2-28) who removed openers Wriddhimam Saha (21) and Shubman Gill (8) inside the first five overs and the visitors never recovered.

Sai Sudharsan top scored with 37 and David Miller’s 21 from 16 balls ended with a brilliant catch by Ajinkya Rahane at deep midwicket.
