Dafabet Warriors left-arm wrist spinner Thomas Kaber grabbed figures of 3-10 to help dismiss the SWD Garden Route Badgers for just 68 in their CSA Pro20 Cup match in Outdtshoorn on Friday before the visitors completed a nine-wicket, bonus-point victory with 10.3 overs to spare.
Kaber’s haul included the wicket of top scorer Janneman Malan who chiselled out 19 from 27 balls while another former Protea, on-loan Titans allrounder Andile Phehlukwayo, managed just 11 from 16 balls before losing his off-stump to seamer Wesley Bedja
While Kaber’s efforts grabbed the immediate headlines there were also extraordinary figures for opening bowler Kerwin Mungroo whose two wickets cost just seven runs in his four overs.
Offspinner Jason Raubenheimer (3-0-9-2) was almost as economical.
Warriors captain Matthew de Villiers was savage during the run-chase smashing eight fours and two sixes in his unbeaten 50 from just 26 balls while opener Andile Mokgakane seemed happy to extend the game with sedate and boundaryless 13* from 25 balls as the Warriors reached 70-1 in just 9.3 overs.
The result moved the Warriors to second place in Pool B with 17 points from five matches, three behind the Dolphins (20) and two above the Lions (15).
The Badgers remain in fourth place with three wins and 13 points from their five matches.
POLOKWANE THRILLER
Elsewhere, the match between Wenbro Limpopo Impalas and Eastern Cape linyathi in Polokwane was a thriller which saw the linyathi (Border) prevail by just three runs.
Openers Nathan Roux (44) and Christiaan du Toit (35) gave the visitors a solid start before captain Jerome Bossr (35) and allrounder Michael Copeland (45*) pushed the total to 166-3 despite left-arm spinner Ernest Kemm claiming 2-22 in his four overs.
Despite slipping to 39-4 the home side rallied with 38 from Christoffel Klijnhans and 34 from just 14 balls (6x4, 1x6) from Marcello Piedt before falling agonisingly short on 163-9.
Limpopo remain winless from their five matches while Border are fifth in Pool B with two wins and 10 points from their five matches.
