Good morning from Kingsmead, where Day 2 promises another gripping chapter in this battle between South Africa and Australia.
The Proteas seized the early momentum on Day 1, with Wiaan Mulder and Anrich Nortje striking telling blows to leave the visitors under pressure. But as Australia so often do, they found a way to fight back.
Matthew Renshaw dug in with trademark grit, weathering the storm and refusing to give an inch, while captain Pat Cummins stood firm alongside him to steady a wobbling innings and keep Australia in the contest.
The Proteas will be hunting early breakthroughs when play resumes, while the Aussies will be determined to turn hard-earned resistance into a position of strength.
The hosts had Australia in a vice on Day 1. Can they tighten the screws on Day 2, or will Renshaw and Cummins spark an Australian fightback? Stay tuned for what promises to be a fascinating day of test cricket in Durban.
