The second round of the Domestic Cricket South Africa 1st Class Series was heavily affected by adverse weather conditions, with two of the four matches failing to see a single ball bowled.
The Dafabet Warriors clash against the Momentum Multiply Titans and the Flexbrands Knights encounter with the DP World Lions were both washed out, with heavy rain in Bloemfontein and Gqeberha preventing the toss from even taking place.
At Boland Park in Paarl, Dafabet Boland and North West Dragons played out a high-scoring affair, with the two sides amassing a massive 1 238 runs between them across the four days.
The visitors won the toss on Thursday and elected to bat, a decision that proved inspired as Diego Rosier continued his impressive form from the opening round with a first-class career-best 211.
Ruan de Swardt and captain Wihan Lubbe also brought up centuries, scoring 138* and 107* respectively, while the returning Rubin Hermann contributed 90 as the Dragons declared on 642/4.
In response, the hosts chipped away at the daunting total, with Lehan Botha remaining unbeaten on 213 and Gavin Kaplan adding 123 to help Boland reach 596/9 on the fourth day.
With neither side able to force a result, the teams shook hands at the end of play.
At YesPlay Newlands Cape Town, the YesPlay WP Cobras and Hollywoodbets Dolphins were both searching for their first wins of the season.
The home side were asked to bat first and made the most of the opportunity, with Jiveshan Pillay and David Bedingham scoring 105 and 129 respectively to lay the foundation for a total of 376.
The Dolphins responded strongly, with Semal Pillay’s 120 and a century from Marques Ackerman, who scored 107, helping the visitors take a 25-run first-innings lead.
Bedingham continued his impressive run with another century; his 32nd in first-class cricket - scoring 114, while Joshua van Heerden added 72 as the Cobras reached 281 in their second innings to set the Dolphins a target of 256.
Ackerman and Josh Richards threatened to steer the visitors to victory on the final day as deteriorating light began to threaten the result. However, Okuhle Cele was caught at short leg by Bedingham off the bowling of Sinalo Gobeni, bringing the Dolphins’ chase to an end.
Prenelan Subrayen and Kyle Simmonds both claimed four-wicket hauls in the second innings, returning figures of 4/88 and 4/91 respectively.
The Cobras ultimately secured a 44-run victory to move to the top of Pool B, while the Dragons lead Pool A after two matches.
Red-ball cricket will now take a two-month break, with attention turning to the shortest format as the Pro20 Cup takes centre stage from Friday.
