WSB Western Province Women strengthened their position at the top of the Hollywoodbets Pro20 standings following another commanding performance in Sunday’s round of fixtures, with just two rounds of matches remaining in the competition.
The unbeaten side now leads with seven wins from seven matches, sitting on 31 points and maintaining a healthy advantage over second-placed DP World Lions Women, who also secured a crucial victory to keep the pressure on at the top of the table.
Western Province Women extended their flawless run with a 10-run victory (DLS method) over Fidelity Titans Ladies in a rain-reduced encounter at SuperSport Park.
Faye Tunnicliffe set the tone with an assured 46 from 26 deliveries, while Delmari Tucker provided valuable support with 39 not out off 24 balls as Western Province posted 87/1 in their nine overs.
In response, the Titans were restricted to 93/2 from eight overs under revised conditions despite a brisk unbeaten 47 from Anneke Bosch and contributions from Simone Lourens (22).
Western Province were also disciplined with the ball, with Nosipho Vezi returning impressive figures of 2/18, supported by economical spells from Miya Lalor and Tucker.
The victory preserved Western Province’s unbeaten record and kept them firmly in control of the standings heading into the decisive phase of the competition.
DP World Lions Women kept their title hopes alive with a four-wicket win over Garden Route Badgers Women in Dobsonville.
The Badgers posted 94/5 in their 20 overs, built around a steady 38 from Izel Cilliers and useful contributions from Zintle Kula (18) and Nicolien Janse Van Rensburg (10).
In reply, the Lions reached 95/6 with four balls to spare thanks largely to a composed half-century from Sunette Viljoen-Louw, who anchored the chase with 53 off 48 deliveries.
Raisibe Ntozakhe (8) and Fay Cowling (7*) played supporting roles to guide their side home.
The Lions bowling unit applied consistent pressure, with Ntozakhe leading the way with 2/15, while Relebohile Mkhize and Sarah Nettleton chipped in with a wicket apiece.
The result ensured the Lions remain second on the table with six wins from seven matches.
Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies claimed a convincing 35-run victory over NW Dragons Women at JB Marks Oval, keeping themselves firmly in the race for a strong finish to the campaign.
Yasmeen Khan produced one of the standout performances of the weekend, striking an unbeaten 81 from 57 balls, while Alexandra Candler made a fluent 63 from 48 balls.
The Dragons’ chase never fully gained traction despite a fighting 58 from Mignon du Preez.
The Dolphins’ bowlers shared the spoils, with Candler contributing with the ball as well (2/8), supported by Jade Figueiredo (1/18) and Michaela Andrews (1/22), as the visitors were restricted to 128/5.
With seven matches played, Western Province Women remain the standout team, DP World Lions Women sit in second place on 27 points, while the Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies occupy third position with 17 points after four wins.
Fidelity Titans Ladies, NW Dragons Women and Garden Route Badgers Women round out the table as the competition approaches its final two rounds.
With qualification scenarios tightening and momentum building, the closing fixtures promise high-stakes action as teams push for strong finishes in the Hollywoodbets Pro20 season.
