Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and opted to bat in the first cricket test against the West Indies in Mirpur on Wednesday.
The hosts left out veteran Mushfiqur Rahim, who sustained a finger injury during training on the eve of the match.
Bangladesh picked fast bowlers Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful Islam in an otherwise spin-heavy attack of Taijul Islam, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Nayeem Hasan.
Towhid Hridoy, who scored an unbeaten 350 for Bangladesh A against South Africa A, replaced Mushfiqur for the opening match of the two-test series.
West Indies skipper Roston Chase handed a test debut to 26-year-old left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop, leaving out experienced paceman Kemar Roach.
Subcontinent specialist Jomel Warrican will lead the spin attack alongside Chase, who also bowls off-spin.
Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales will spearhead the pace attack for the visitors.
