TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE & MATCHES
Format: The tournament is expected to feature 84 matches, though not fully confirmed over the usual 74, as teams compete in 14 league matches.
Schedule: The schedule is likely to be released in phases due to coinciding Indian state elections.
Venues: Matches will be played across India, with the playoffs starting around 26 May 2026, likely involving Ahmedabad and Raipur in addition to Bengaluru.
South Africa has 16 players spread across eight teams, the most ever and more than any other country outside hosts India. Those involved in the T20 World Cup have not yet arrived having been given extra ‘time off’ following their week-long delay in leaving India after the tournament ended.
The IPL begins with the opening match between defending champions, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on 28 March.
